Grand Opening of the Ulster County Archives

During Archives Week in New York State, October 6-12, and as part of the year-long celebration of Kingston’s 350th anniversary, the Ulster County Clerk will host "The Grand Opening of the Ulster County Archives" on October 10, 2002.

The Grand Opening celebration will include the unveiling of this Web Site and exhibit of Dutch Colonial records and the Governor Richard Nicolls/Esopus Indian Treaty. In addition, hardcopy Finding Aids will be available for researchers.

Please call the Archives at (845)-340-3415 for more information.

Searchable Database Goes Live

Visit the Ulster County Archives from home! Beginning in 1999, the staff at the Archives has been working on the creation of numerous "text searchable" databases that now reside on this web site. It has been a goal of the Archives to provide the researcher with as much information as possible through these databases. Therefore you will find, in many of the databases, a large amount of information available for one specific record.

The searchable database structure contains two components. These components are the "Box Level Series Descriptions" database and the "Record Indexes" database.

The "Box Level Series Descriptions" database contains records that have been described in Machine Readable Cataloging (MARC) Format. This web site provides researchers the capability of searching this database a number of ways. It can be searched by Department, Collection, Record Series Title, Date and Keyword. Please note that on the Keyword Search screen there is a link to an Advanced Search Screen.

The "Record Indexes" contain Indexes that have been transcribed into electronic format. These indexes are rich with fields that give the researcher a broad knowledge of information pertaining to a record or index entry.
