Hints on Searching:

  • Use an asterisk (*) to search on a word stem
    e.g., tax* will find tax, taxes, taxation, etc.

  • Use a slash (/) to find any of the specified words or phrases
    e.g., treaty/treaties will find records containing either treaty or treaties or both.

  • Use an ampersand (&) to search for all words or phrases
    e.g., naturalization & petition will find only records that contain both words.

  • Use an exclamation point (!) to exclude a word
    e.g., tax ! property will find records that contain the word tax but not the word property
